CURRENT LEARNING PROGRAMMES

UKWAZI SKILLS CAMPUS is accredited by the HEALTH & WELFARE SECTOR EDUCATION AND TRAINING AUTHORITY (“HWSETA”) for the HEALTH CARE ASSISTANT SKILLS PROGRAMME.  The course is administered and facilitated by UKWAZI SCHOOL OF NURSING (PTY) LTD – our sister company.

The course equips successful students with the theoretical knowledge and practical skills to be employed as a HEALTH CARE ASSISTANT in hospitals, clinics, recuperation institutions, frail care centres, and the like.

The duration of the course is approximately 5 – 5½ months and serves as an introduction to healthcare and nursing sciences.   It consists of both theoretical and practical training (in frail care centres and in simulation) and is made up of the following modules:

• Apply accurate information about HIV & AIDS to everyday life
• Perform Basic Life Support and First Aid Procedures
• Provide Care to a Frail Person
• Provide Information about Tuberculosis and directly observed treatment (DOTS)
• Promote an Awareness of Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) in the community
• Anatomy and Physiology (not for credit purposes)

Importantly, the HEALTH CARE ASSISTANT programme also makes it possible for prospective students without LIFE SCIENCES or with a mark below level 4 to enter the selection process of the nursing qualification (through the application of the principles underlying the recognition of prior learning) offered by our sister company (UKWAZI SCHOOL OF NURSING) – see their website www.ukwazi.co.za. for more information.
